Around the world, interesting new dining concepts are emerging that continue to challenge all senses and deliver brand new experiences. Here we take a look at three which we liked!
Dinner in the dark

Discover a unique chance to explore all your senses—except one! Having dinner in total darkness can be an interesting culinary adventure, but also a challenging one. Langham Place Hotel occasionally offers a rare chance to partake in this unique fine dining event. Let the aromas, sounds and flavours excite you as your visual senses are put to rest for the duration of the meal. Just to be safe, the dishes of course will be specially prepared to avoid any bones or non-edible materials, so that guests can simply relax and enjoy this sensory journey without embarrassment or risk of choking. However, what you are about to eat will be guarded as a secret until you’ve actually tried it. While you may not know exactly what you will be eating, one thing is certain: this “mystery” menu prepared by Langham Hotel’s executive chef Paul Mcloughin will definitely surprise and delight you in every way possible!
Dinner in the sky

If dining in the dark does not sound exciting enough for you, you might want to take your culinary adventure to new heights—literally. Dining in the sky is essentially eating on a table suspended in the air by a gigantic crane. While this might sound exhilarating to some, it may seem nerve-wracking to others, especially for those with a fear of heights. The concept of having dinner in the sky has certainly caught on. In fact, over 35 countries are now experimenting with new and exciting ways to deliver the unique experience, such as teaming up with famous chefs to provide the best food to match your sky dining experience. There is now even the possibility of arranging a marriage in the sky for those that would like to have their wedding ceremony closer to the angels! Though it may sound like a very wild and dangerous idea, safety is certainly guaranteed and the event has been approved in even those countries with the strictest standards. Unfortunately, they have yet to expand here to Hong Kong, but it is expected that they will be entering the Chinese market soon!
Dinner in 3D

Okay, perhaps you would say that you are not really into taking such risks. All you want is a truly amazing dining experience without the element of danger. We also have another choice, which may intrigue you. How about a dinner that triggers all your senses? Azurmendi is a restaurant located in Bilbao, Spain which boasts 2 Michelin-stars, and is headed by the young and talented Basque chef Eneko Atxa, positioned to be the next big thing in the Spanish culinary scene. Housed in a huge building together with its own wine making facilities, Azurmendi offers the ultimate sensory experience using a combination of sound and smoke from bubbling dry ice (with specific aromas to match your dish), and specially designed dishware to match with or provide a new sensory atmosphere for each culinary delight. In early 2012, the team will be moving into a brand new building close by that was designed to meet the newest environmental requirements, including ample natural light and a larger space for food research and preparation. If you are ever in Spain, you should definitely give this place a visit before Eneko gets more famous like his other compatriot celebrity chefs. By then, a table will be hard to come by in this fascinating restaurant!
